The CIFA Trust is a small but effective charity that provides assistance to some of the world’s most financially deprived communities. We are registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SC037566).

We are a bit different to most charities in that we operate with no paid staff: instead we are run by a group of experienced voluntary trustees in partnership with nationally registered partners. This unique approach means we can direct the financial support we receive to where it is needed most.

At the CIFA Trust we start by listening to communities to understand their aspirations and what it is that stops them from achieving those. We then set about helping them to overcome those obstacles so they can better meet their basic needs, improve their wellbeing and better protect themselves against future setbacks and shocks. This approach is what gives us our name: Community Initiatives Facilitation and Assistance (CIFA).

At present our work focuses in particular on communities in Malawi, which is one of the world’s poorest countries: one in every two people in Malawi live below the poverty line, meaning they are unable to meet even just basic food and non-food needs.
