Our Trustees - Anthony Hovey

Anthony is the CIFA UK Trust's Chariman.

He was born in North Wales and has a first degree in Agricultural Economics from Aberystwyth University. His first job was with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), as a Agric Science Teacher at a rural secondary school in Zambia (1984-86). He then completed a Masters in Tropical Agricultural Development at the University of Reading, graduating in 1988 and was then posted to Sudan where he worked for 18 months in food aid management for the EU ('Operation Lifeline Sudan').

Since then Anthony has been involved in many roles across the region, including:

  • Local government management advisor for British Aid - in Zambia
  • Field Representative for Harvest Help - in Zambia
  • Regional Coordinator - in Namibia
  • Country Representative for Childrens Aid Direct - in North Korea
  • Programme Director for Farm Africa - in Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania
  • Country Director for Concern Worldwide - Kenya and Somalia

At the end of 2004 Anthony moved to the Isle of Skye to take over the croft-based market garden 'Skye Vegetables'. He got involved in CIFA - and helping to set up The CIFA Trust - after being contacted by CIFA Kenya who wanted to establish a UK base.

"Being involved in a new organisation is challenging, and it is very satisfying to be a trustee of an organisation with high values, and where ALL the donations go to the beneficiaries."
